Careers

As a result of our specialized practice, our size, and the emphasis we place on the quality of our work product, we offer a unique opportunity for associates beginning their careers. Associates work closely with experienced practitioners and receive direct hands-on training in particular aspects of the law. Our structure provides even a first-year associate with the opportunity to gain significant experience and accept responsibility for matters that might be handled by more senior attorneys at other firms.

A healthy consequence of our staffing philosophy is a greater sense of satisfaction among our associates about their work. The collegial spirit at a firm of our size — coupled with the sophistication of large complex transactions, high-profile litigation and “mega” bankruptcies that you might expect to find only at significantly larger firms — makes Otterbourg the ideal place for an attorney starting his or her career. At Otterbourg, you will gain significant experience and develop skills that will prove invaluable to you throughout your career.

Diversity

We believe in the value of a diverse work environment and are actively seeking to recruit and develop a group of talented attorneys whose different backgrounds, life experiences and cultural perspectives strengthen our ability to serve our clients’ needs. For an overview of our current efforts in this important area, please see the section on Diversity.

Law School Recruiting

We are interested in second- and third-year law school candidates who have a record of academic success and excellent writing ability, and can formulate and communicate ideas clearly and concisely. Of equal importance, we seek students who have certain intangible qualities, such as maturity and poise. If you are a second-year law student, please see the description of our Summer Associate Program.

We participate in on-campus interviewing and job fairs at numerous law schools throughout the United States, including the following:

Brooklyn Law School
Columbia University School of Law
Cornell Law School
Duke University School of Law
Fordham University School of Law
Georgetown University School of Law
Howard University School of Law

New York University School of Law
St. John's University School of Law
University of Pennsylvania School of Law

If you are an interested second- or third-year candidate and attend a school at which Otterbourg will not be interviewing, you are encouraged to apply directly to the Firm between August 1st and September 30th.

Applicants should send a cover letter, resume and law school transcript to:
